The Government of India has received a setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has decided that the central government should decide what is the basis of the ban imposed on the Internet in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, the government has canceled 370 and 35A from Jammu Kashmir.
The government had banned the Internet in Kashmir so that no obstacle comes in the peace of Kashmir. But the court has given instructions on this decision of the government that the government should review the restrictions. The Supreme Court said that the government should submit its review on the internet ban and section 14 within a week.
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by Congress leader Gulab Nabi Azad and Kashmir Times editor Anuradha Bhasin. In this petition, there was mention of internet ban and needless imposition of section 144 by the government.
The Supreme Court said that it is the moral right of the citizen to use the Internet and collectively protect. Also, shutting down the Internet is a violation of telecom rules. The court has instructed that until the situation is not too bad, unnecessary restrictions should not be imposed. The government should review these restrictions and put all information in the public domain.
